Booking choice: The classic Vesuvius and Pompeii day trip, from $149 per person. Check dates Tour details
Pompeii and the Vesuvius crater are run by two different bodies with two different tickets: the Pompeii Archaeological Park and the Vesuvius National Park. Neither ticket is expensive. What makes the day cost more is getting between Naples, the ruins and a car park 1,000 metres up a volcano.
Official prices below come from the Pompeii park's 2026 fee notice and the Vesuvius National Park's crater page. Tour prices are live Viator from-prices; they move with the season, and the checkout price is the one that counts.
The quick answer
The Pompeii ticket costs EUR 20 (free for under-18s) and the Vesuvius crater ticket EUR 10, sold online only, plus a booking fee that tours list as EUR 11.68 in total. Combined tours from Naples run from $97 (minibus, no lunch) to $172 (lunch and wine), with the classic coach day at $149. Every combined tour on this site includes both tickets.

How much are the official Pompeii and Vesuvius tickets in 2026?
Pompeii's basic ticket is EUR 20 and the Vesuvius crater ticket is EUR 10, so the two sites together cost about EUR 30 per adult before transport.
Pompeii also sells bigger tickets that add the suburban villas, and the Vesuvius park has a reduced rate. Under-18s enter Pompeii free, European citizens aged 18 to 24 pay EUR 2, and everyone gets in free on the first Sunday of the month.
| Ticket | Price | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Pompeii basic | EUR 20 | The main city: what every tour visits |
| Pompei+ | EUR 25 | Adds the suburban villas, including the Villa of the Mysteries |
| Pompeii 3-day | EUR 30 | Repeat visits over three days |
| Pompeii reduced | EUR 2 | European citizens aged 18 to 24 |
| Vesuvius crater (Gran Cono) | EUR 10 + booking fee | The walk to the crater rim, timed entry |
| Vesuvius reduced | EUR 8 | Under-25s with ID and residents of the park's towns |
| Free | Under 18 at Pompeii; under 6 on Vesuvius | Families |
Both tickets already in the price: the classic day adds pickup in Naples, a guide and a pizza lunch.

| Classic day trip | $149 | Both | Pizza and a drink | Hotel, station or nearby point |

What do you actually pay for on top of the tickets?
Transport, guiding and usually lunch: the two tickets come to roughly EUR 32 with the Vesuvius booking fee, and the rest of the tour price is logistics.
The hard part is not the ruins but the volcano. There is no ticket office on Vesuvius, the crater ticket is timed, and the road climbs to a car park at about 1,000 metres that is not on the train line. A tour solves all of that with one pickup. If you are happy to plan, the train is far cheaper; see train or tour.

Which tour is the cheapest?
The minibus tour from $97 is the cheapest combined tour, with both tickets and an archaeologist in Pompeii; lunch and hotel pickup are not included.
It runs the day in reverse, volcano first, for a group of at most 16, and you meet the tour leader outside the Starhotels Terminus opposite Napoli Centrale. Guests report the lunch stop is at a shopping mall, so bring snacks if you would rather not. Children under 6 cannot join.

Want the lowest price with both tickets? The minibus tour caps the group at 16 and puts an archaeologist with you in Pompeii.
Explore the minibus tour, volcano first Tour detailsIs the wine tour worth the extra money?
Yes, if lunch matters to you: at $172 it adds a long lunch with local wines, and its 4.9 from 461 reviews is the best score here.
Care more about the guide than the food? Look at the Elite tour. At $137 on our last check it cost less than the classic day, yet it swaps the pizza for a traditional lunch and puts an archaeologist in front of you in Pompeii. Both Worldtours days run with up to 40 travelers. On both, an interactive audioguide replaces the live Pompeii guide if fewer than 6 people book in your language. And the wine "tasting", one guest noted, is a few wines served with lunch.

How much is it if you only want Pompeii?
The half-day Pompeii trip is $87 with a priority ticket and about two hours with a guide; the round-trip shuttle is $31 without the ticket.
The shuttle drops you near the entrance and gives you up to seven hours inside, which is the better deal if Pompeii is the reason you came. Add the EUR 20 ticket (free for under-18s), bought online in advance because tickets are named and capped at 20,000 a day.
Pompeii at your own pace? The shuttle picks you up in central Naples and waits up to seven hours.
Check dates for the Pompeii shuttleDo tours charge for children if Pompeii is free for them?
Yes. Under-18s enter Pompeii free, but tours still charge a child rate, because you are paying for the seat, the guide and the lunch.
Age bands differ by operator: on the classic day anyone 7 or over pays the adult rate, the Worldtours tours charge child rates up to 12, and some tours count children up to 17. Pompeii and Vesuvius with kids has the details.
What happens to your money if Vesuvius is closed?
The Pompeii part goes ahead, and the tour either refunds the Vesuvius park ticket or swaps in another stop; you do not get the whole tour refunded.
The crater path closes automatically on orange weather alerts and in strong wind. The classic day refunds the park ticket; the pizza lunch tour swaps in free time at Herculaneum; the Elite tour lists a possible switch to the Valley of Hell. Every tour cancels free up to 24 hours before, so watch the forecast.
