Pompeii in a half day

A minibus takes you from Naples to Pompeii, a guide with headsets leads you past the Forum, the baths, the brothel and the frescoes of the House of the Vettii, and you're back in town after 4 to 5 hours. It suits anyone who wants Pompeii without the volcano climb.

Pompeii Half-Day Trip with Priority Entry

About this experience

The same operator as the classic day, minus Vesuvius and lunch. You add your accommodation address when booking and call after 7 PM the evening before for your pickup time and place: selected hotels, the port, the central station or a meeting point. The drive is about 25 minutes.

At Pompeii you go in through priority entry and spend about 2 hours with a guide, wearing headsets: the main square, the baths, the Lupanare and the frescoes of the House of the Vettii. The Pompeii ticket (EUR 20) is in the price. Then the minibus takes you back.

Two things guests flag. The driver and the guide are different people, and your minibus group can join a larger walking group in the ruins. And some had free time before or after the guided part, which they would have skipped. On the first Sunday of each month entry to Pompeii is free for everyone, and the listing says entry on those days is not guaranteed.

  • Priority entry with the Pompeii ticket included
  • About 2 hours with a guide and headsets
  • Pickup from selected hotels, the port or the station
  • Back in Naples after 4 to 5 hours
  • No climb: good for anyone who can't do the crater

Our guide was Maria and she was excellent! Extensive historical knowledge and very helpful. It was a very hot day and she did her best to guide us to shade.

The half day tour was just right for us, especially since we just flew in that morning. The tour was informative and just right amount of time, then we just chilled the rest of the day

Tips before you book

  • Avoid the first Sunday of the month. Entry is free, and the listing doesn't guarantee it.
  • Bring a hat or umbrella for sun. There's little shade in the ruins.
  • Cruise guests: ask where the drop-off is. One guest was let out on the road near the port, not at the terminal.
  • The lead traveler must send an ID photo for the named ticket.
